SPECIAL: Ginette's First Trip to Spain

[Editor's note: here's the first batch of pics from Ginette's first visit to Spain in August 2005. I met up with her almost two weeks ago to download the pics from her camera. She's been quite busy now that she's back in school so I just got the commentaries from her yesterday. These photos were taken at a tablao in Jerez de la Frontera.]

An evening at El Lago de Tio Parilla August 15, 2005

Pic of stage...mood getting ready...I can feel the flamenco mood build up by hearing the flamencas' footwork exercises as they prepare their costumes and make up. August 15, 2005 (photo courtesy of Ginette)

They start off the show with bulerías to get the crowd going...very intensive facial features! August 15, 2005 (photo courtesy of Ginette)

Gypsy flamenco dancers enjoying their sevillanas. August 15, 2005 (photo courtesy of Ginette)

Dancing sevillanas. Oh wait, I recognize that girl in the white dress! She was in Juan de Juan's workshop--very young but the first one to get all the steps down within a matter of minutes!  August 15, 2005 (photo courtesy of Ginette)

Dancing soleá por bulerías...very powerful intense look. I love it! August 15, 2005 (photo courtesy of Ginette)

The female singer. She had a great voice. I loved hearing her sing! August 15, 2005 (photo courtesy of Ginette)

I think she was the best dancing onstage. She had the whole package!! August 15, 2005 (photo courtesy of Ginette)

Quick pic of all of us by a kind stranger. The food was good. I had fried shark meat. The table was kinda small though. From the left: Manuel, Anna, Lisa and Ginette. August 15, 2005 (photo courtesy of Ginette)

Gypsies were kind enough to take a quick pic with me and Lisa. August 15, 2005 (photo courtesy of Ginette)

[Editor's note: Did you know that former DC area dancer Felicia German has performed here with the Parilla gypsy family? The tablao is located at Plaza del Mercado (no street number) in Jerez de la Frontera. Telephone number is 956-308-334. My thanks to Ginette for letting me publish her pics. I'm working on the second batch. Stay tuned!]
