As you know, I'm a busy guy and as much as I'd like to, I just can't make it to every single flamenco-related event in the DC area. Thank God I have friends who are kind enough to send me pics from parties and concerts conflict with my schedule!
Ken McNaughton attended a performance last night at Tuscana West restaurant in downtown DC. It was a fundraiser for Foundation of Children with Leukemia. While this was going on, I was at Torcuato's birthday party which was scheduled at the same time. Oh well. If only I could be at two places at once. :-)
Ken writes:
Hi Michael. I have attached some snaps I took at the benefit at Tuscana West Sunday in case you don’t have them.
Thanks for the great e-mail reminding me of this and other events.

Canut Reyes sings two songs (including Djobi Djoba). Andre Reyes plays rhythm and harmonizes and our own Richard Marlow takes the lead. Patchai Reyes joined in the singing for an encore. July 9, 2006 (photo courtesy of Ken McNaughton)
Just in! I got these pics a few minutes ago from my friend Ayhan.

Thanks to Kivanc Oner for informing about this exciting event.
I don't know where else to announce this, but Ken got a part as an extra in an upcoming movie. He writes:
As an extra in my very first major movie (set in Baltimore and now called “Step Up”), I even appear in the trailer! Click on http://myspace.com/stepupmovie. When the hero finally kisses the girl, click on the Play/Pause button at bottom left (you can also juggle the movie back and forth with the arrow in the slot). As the music starts, my friend Jen McCormick is immediately stage left of the conductor and I am next to her in a navy suit and glasses. Don’t miss the movie, opening August 11th. The trailer is looking good!
Incidentally, Sara Jerez, who's been taking time off of flamenco dancing to focus on her acting and modeling career got a part as an extra in the current movie The Devil Wears Prada. She plays one of the guests at a party in the scene in Paris where Meryl Streep makes the big announcement towards the end of the movie.
