Flamenco: Between Popular Culture and High Art

Wednesday May 1, 2002
Baird Auditorium, National Museum of Natural History, Washington DC USA

(Thursday May 2, 2002) Unfortunately I couldn't find a substitute guitarist to cover my Wednesday night gig so that I could attend this lecture performance.

I decided to sneak in during the pre-performance rehearsal to get a few backstage pics.

(Walking through this door brought back many memories. I performed here with the Spanish Dance Society about ten years ago...but that's another story.)

4:34pm As I enter the auditorium, I notice two flamenco dancers running through one of the numbers as the tech crew adjust the lights.

4:37pm Still dressed in street clothes, Anna Menendez and Edwin Aparicio work on their duet.
