Arte Flamenco at the West Virginia Spanish Festival

Sunday July 20, 2003

It's a long drive out to Clarksburg, West Virginia (about 4 hours from DC) but once you get there and meet such warm and generous people you realize "it was worth the trip!" The clear skies and picturesque landscapes are just an added bonus.

You might be wondering how there could be a Spanish community so far from the a cosmopolitan center like DC. I never really got a detailed answer from anyone, but one resident mentioned that in the 1800's a large group of Spanish mining families migrated here.

This Spanish Festival is their way of celebrating and reaquainting themselves with the culture and traditions of the mother land, Spain.

[My apologies in advance for not taking pics of the show--I can't play guitar and use the camera at the same time! :)]
