The last I heard, when the economy went down, they temporarily canceled the Tuesday night flamenco show at Red Maple and eventually canceled it permanently. I think they tried to revive it a couple of times. I just checked the Red Maple website at http://www.930redmaple.com and apparently Tuesday is now salsa night.

I have upgraded the tuners to Fustero Deluxe with Ivory pegs. I had a refret done by Randy Parsons of Seattle who also did a amazing set up on the guitar.

I wanted to let everyone know to be wary of a Flamenco company called Color de Flamenco in Spain. I ordered a skirt from them on-line which was not the correct order and when I returned the product per their instructions in order to be reimbursed they did not respond to any further enquiries. I would suggest not doing business with a company that provides unreliable service and poor product quality.

UPDATE: I finally met Mark Sawasky in person. He stopped by Las Tapas last Tuesday to check out the show and introduce himself personally. I'm sure we'll be seeing him at more local flamenco events in the future. In the meantime, visit his MySpace profile at http://www.myspace.com/marksawaskysworldpercussion

Hi Mark. Welcome to the DC flamenco community. Looking forward to meeting you in person at a future local flamenco event.

In the meantime, you might want to check out http://flamenco-teacher.com/forum which is run by local guitarist Ramin Rad. Several of the local guitarists post messages there frequently.

Hi, my name is Mark Sawasky and I love flamenco. I play cajon and doumbek and many other percussion instruments. It would be great to play for class or sit in sometime with other flamencos in the area. Maybe we can meet and have coffee. My Compas is pretty good. I have been performing with La Chispa and Company in Detroit for six years. I played with Alma Espanola as well as Garialan Blugray, Daniel Sanchez, Jean Hagopian, Dan Parisen, Dame Maria Del Carmen, Mary Laredo Herbeck, Djeto Juncaj, Lisa and Julie Montes, Valeria Montes. I studied with Ethan Margolis and Vida Peral and Jaco. I learned a lot from Christine Scott. I have been playing in a multi-cultural ensemble for 15 years called Immigrant Suns and toured the U.S. for seven years. My e-mail is sawaskydrum2000@yahoo.com

Hope to talk to you soon! Take care,

Mark

Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2F-05
Handmade in Spain, a 2006 Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2F-05 guitar. Solid spruce top, solid cypress back and sides, upgraded tuners, comes with nice hardshell case. Guitar is in near-new condition, and has no issues/problems and no major scratches or dings. Is very easy to play, great, low-action set-up. In excellent shape, and has very traditional, dry, raspy flamenco sound---guitar is very loud. The guitar is made by the sons of famed luthier Ricardo Sanchis Caprio (can Google for more info.). The guitar retails in U.S.A. for $1800.00---------I am asking $1350.00. Will ship.

This is not the first time I've had one of these on DCFlamenco.com but over the years my previous versions of message boards tended to get overrun by spam and I've had to shut them down. But a number of my regular readers have been begging me to get a message board started again. So this is for you, enjoy!
